Try this: go to google.com, type SS2 in the search bar and observe the first suggested search entry that appears. That’s right, it is “SS2 Durian”. You could say SS2 is synonymous with Durian, and i think that warrants my writing a blog entry about eating Durian in SS2.
The sale of Durians was originally popularized by the SS2 Durian stall more than 10 years ago. The tentage set up next to the prominent junction at SS2 helped drive the business to a feverish pitch. Thereafter, competition came in and there are now 4 or 5 sellers, after some consolidation.
This time round, we visited Sinnaco. This would be my second visit here. I don’t have much impression of my first visit which was quite a few years ago. I must say, i was very pleased with the experience this time. I was given good recommendation on the variants to try, and every single Durian served was carefully chosen. They were all very good. I must say, the quality was one notch better than those available in Johor, save for premium sellers like Ang and Chuan. Another favourable factor was there was air-conditioning! I don’t remember having Durian in an air-conditioned space anywhere else.
We had two types of the RM38/kg Hill Top limited season supply special old tree premium grade variant, one of the RM22/kg Hill Top old tree Premium Grade as well as Musang King or Mao Shan Wang, which cannot be missed.
We are probably near the end of the Durian season. So glad that we managed to enjoy such high quality Durian. When making payment, the lady boss even agreed to round down RM7, which was quite generous. We will certainly be back!
Update
Having been to Sinnaco a few times, well, I stopped patronizing them. Their prices are on the expensive side, and the durian isn’t always good.
Instead, I go to the stall right across. There is no name to the stall I think. The prices are always reasonable and the durian quality never disappointed. The worst stalls to go to are “SS2 Durian” and “Durian Station” right behind them.
