Taobao product recommendation – Cordless handheld vacuum cleaner

I have previously recommended this Korean cordless vacuum cleaner, but now that i have tried a Chinese one powered by Lithium battery, i’d say the Chinese one wins hands down.

I bought the HanFuRen, which is obviously a Dyson knock-off. I managed to get it while it was on sale, at an amazing price of 199 Yuan (S$40). It is currently selling for 299 Yuan – the singles day sale doesn’t always give you the best deal.

Taobao product recommendation – Kitchen deep-frying oil filter

One of the reasons i don’t like to cook deep-fried food, besides health considerations, is having to deal with of the leftover oil. The Japanese have a solution to this – a filtration oil storage pot.

As pictured above, there is a wire mesh to filter away the sediments in the  oil after frying stuff. The mesh size is probably just nice. If it is any more fine, it becomes clogged up easily the oil won’t be able to pass through. I find it useful for filtering soup as well, which can often have lots of sediments also. At 1.4 litres for the small sized pot, it can hold quite a bit of liquid.

Taobao product recommendation – Amplifier

Let me say on the onset that i am no audiophile nor expert in sound reproduction, but i am somewhat a perfectionist, and a perfectionist won’t make do with a normal off-the-shelf audio system.

More than a decade ago, i invested in a pair of Monitor Audio speakers plus a Wharfedale subwoofer. I’m happy to report that both are still working flawlessly. Now, back then, Taobao did not yet exist, so there was not much options in buying a cheap amplifier. Today, Taobao has you covered. Cheap amplifier? You bet. An amplifier is called a 功放机 in Chinese by the way.

Taobao product recommendation – USB-C OTG Cable

Having upgraded my phone, i needed a replacement OTG cable, a USB-C one instead of micro USB (specifically a USB-C to USB-A female). There are plenty of similar products on Taobao as expected.

I prefer one that comes with a cable, rather than a thumb-drive-like one. If you prefer the latter, then it would be this UGreen branded one that has the highest sales volume currently. For the cable type, i chose, at random, a high-sales volume one, the Pisen branded one (as pictured in the feature photo). This Jingston branded one is similar. The cable type is definitely more flexible and preferable to the thumb-drive type, IMHO.

Taobao product recommendation – OTG SD Card Reader

History teaches us that we don’t learn our lessons. Years ago, i received a free SD card reader together with some other Taobao product i purchased. All was well until i tried to move a large amount of data using the SD card reader. The SD card was actually physically damaged. I threw the darn SD card reader away and bought a cheap replacement, something that cost around S$2.

History just repeated itself and I binned the SD card reader again. Moving a large amount of data using a cheap SD card reader just won’t do. Coincidentally, i needed a USB-C OTG SD card reader for my new phone, so i looked up Taobao for a reputable product, and ended up with the UGreen USB-C/USB-A Card Reader.

Taobao product recommendation – Sound Mixer

A sound mixer is one of those gadgets you’d imagine to cost a bomb. Well, not anymore, when you can find them on Taobao. I would presume not many people need a sound mixer for use in a home setting, and the two use cases i can think of are music production and hosting of events. My use case is the latter.

Qoo10 product recommendation – Europe prepaid data SIM

Two years ago, I discovered that Three offerred probably the best prepaid data SIM for Europe, but it was only available to UK residents. There were just a few resellers on eBay back then. Well, it didn’t take long for some enterprising ones to bulk purchase the SIM cards for sale in Singapore. Now you can buy these cards on Qoo10, and they offer 1 to 10 GB of data for 30 days for an unbeatable price of $15.90 to $49.80. Taobao product recommendation – Silicone Sous Vide bag

Anova sells the stasher silicone bag for S$28. Way too expensive. Unfortunately, you can’t find the exact same product on Taobao, yet. The closest alternative i found is this one meant for kneading dough, costing only 13.5 Yuan (S$2.70).

I’m taking it for a spin on a Pork Collar slab. The medium sized bag is perfect. I might buy the small sized bag as well in the future, for smaller cuts of pork or beef.

The curved bottom is perfect for Sous Vide – the cooking liquid will not end up in the corners like they do in a rectangular bag

Taobao product recommendation – Silicone tongs

Not much to say on this one, except, well, it works. Don’t expect a very refined product for 13.6 Yuan (S$2.7 plus shipping), but no complaints for this price. If you did a search on Taobao (硅胶食品夹子), you’ll realize that more than half the sellers are selling the very same product.

Taobao product recommendation – KZ ZSR earphones

I bought these earphones primarily for use with an IEM (In-Ear Monitor) system (on-stage musical jamming). They would work very well when doing sports or during commute or just casual listening. I came across these while looking through earphones sold on Amazon, and there are just so many of them (90% Chinese products)! These ones caught my attention, because one reviewer mentioned he used it for IEM. As usual, you save a bundle when buying from Taobao instead of Amazon.
