Two years ago, I discovered that Three offerred probably the best prepaid data SIM for Europe, but it was only available to UK residents. There were just a few resellers on eBay back then. Well, it didn’t take long for some enterprising ones to bulk purchase the SIM cards for sale in Singapore. Now you can buy these cards on Qoo10, and they offer 1 to 10 GB of data for 30 days for an unbeatable price of $15.90 to $49.80. Anova sells the stasher silicone bag for S$28. Way too expensive. Unfortunately, you can’t find the exact same product on Taobao, yet. The closest alternative i found is this one meant for kneading dough, costing only 13.5 Yuan (S$2.70).
I’m taking it for a spin on a Pork Collar slab. The medium sized bag is perfect. I might buy the small sized bag as well in the future, for smaller cuts of pork or beef.
Not much to say on this one, except, well, it works. Don’t expect a very refined product for 13.6 Yuan (S$2.7 plus shipping), but no complaints for this price. If you did a search on Taobao (硅胶食品夹子), you’ll realize that more than half the sellers are selling the very same product.
I bought these earphones primarily for use with an IEM (In-Ear Monitor) system (on-stage musical jamming). They would work very well when doing sports or during commute or just casual listening. I came across these while looking through earphones sold on Amazon, and there are just so many of them (90% Chinese products)! These ones caught my attention, because one reviewer mentioned he used it for IEM. As usual, you save a bundle when buying from Taobao instead of Amazon. When you use a projector, you invariably encounter one problem – the projector has to be placed far away from your sound system (unless you got the now-still-very-costly short throw projector, which may come bundled with the sound system even).
Two ways to solve the problem – either you run a long HDMI/audio cable between the projector and the sound system, or, you transmit the audio signal wirelessly. These days, it is actually quite cheap to do the latter, by using Bluetooth wireless transmission. Continue reading Taobao product recommendation – Bluetooth transmitter and receiver
I’ve been using the Sonicare Series 3 for a year and a half. Well, i thought i could save money by sharing a single handle between my better half and myself, by swapping the brush head each time we use it respectively. Looks like that was a bad idea – it accelerated the wear and tear. Had to shop for new sonic toothbrushes. This time i went for the cheapest one that does 31000 vibrations per second, two of them this time, and it is the Sonicare 4100 ProtectiveClean. There’s no way you can cut vegetable into strips quickly and evenly with a knife. If you searched on Taobao, you will find quite a few variations of tools to help you do that. They don’t look convincing. In the end i settled on the tried and true method – the Japanese method. Continue reading Taobao product recommendation – Spiral Vegetable Cutter
Wireless Microphones used to cost a bomb. Thanks to advancement in technology, all things wireless cost a fraction of what they used to. I got hold of a Wireless Mic for just 89 Yuan (S$18), and it’s the set with a mini stand. It worked right out of the box. Two pieces of AA batteries as well as a 1/4″ to 3.5mm stereo plug adapter are included. No audible noise. Happy.
If your old folks are the Karaoke loving type, this would make a nice (and cheap but not cheap looking) gift. The lowest end one (the one i got) uses slightly cheap feeling plastic, but you can choose the higher end metallic one for just a bit more.
No, you don’t want your plants to die when you go on extended holiday. That’s why i got hold of an automatic plant watering system from Taobao. Yes, it sounds like a fun project to DIY, but, why waste precious time when you can just buy one for only 89 Yuan (S$18.6)?
If you have been buying gadgets and appliances from Taobao, you invariably run into the problem that i do – you keep running out of plug adaptors.
China’s power plug configuration is usually the same two pin type used in the US, but sometimes they also use the 3 pin type used in Australia. For either case, the universal to UK 3 pin plug adaptor pictured below will work. Most of us will intuitively buy such an adaptor from the typical neighbourhood homeware shop, since it usually doesn’t cost much (probably S$2 to $3 per piece). However, if you need lots of them (and you do if you’re a frequent Taobao shopper), you might as well buy them from Taobao. Buy lots, one shot.
